• We are getting ready to leave Koh Mak, Thailand for Terengganu, Malaysia. The trip will take 3-4 days and we won’t see land for most of it! First big overnight passage for both of us starts tomorrow!

  • It is not really Christmas, just felt like it

  • Come with us thru Angkor Wat and other Temples in Siem Reap Cambodia

  • Come with us as we experience the Sanctuary of Truth.

  • Join our adventures during September through early October!

  • Walk thru new boat with Barbara and see what our new home looks like.

  • Our first night at anchor, we took a tour around the exterior of the Raney Day Fun, our new Seawind 1260 sail catamaran.

  • Getting from Bangkok to Pattaya was eventful. We were transported in the back of this pickup truck with our luggage on top for an hour and a half ride. Better than walking. Barbara tried to pass the time with a sing-a-long, only one toothless, tone-deaf individual would sing with her.

Maggie Choo’s is our home for the near future. We were not allowed to photograph the interior. When you are on a retirement budget, you have to make certain compromises. The good news is we were offered discounts on tattoos and massages. (Pretty nice benefit, huh?)

Don’t always believe what you see on the internet or brochure. This is the back side of our hotel. The interior is much better once you get adjusted to the smell.

Our neighbors. Lots of “services” in the neighborhood.

JUST KIDDING!! This is actually the entrance to our wonderful hotel Dor-Shada Resort by the Sea. It is not even in Pattaya, but a nearby area called Jomtien.

Right on the beach, with a lovely pool.

We had a great breakfast everyday. We could have American style omelets or Thai Style Holy Basil pork, or many other treats. Warisara was our hostess the entire time and made us feel right at home!

  • For those of you who do not yet know our new boat’s name, it is Raney Day Fun, a play on our last name. She was built in Viet Nam by Seawind Catamarans. The build completed a couple of weeks ago and a crew of three, captained by our trusty Seawind liaison, Phil, brought her safely to Pattaya.

Our boat has an AIS beacon on it which transmits coordinates, similar to how they track aircraft. If you know the MMSI number of a vessel, be it yachts or container ships, you can use that number to find the boat. We knew our boat had arrived in Pattaya when we used this location system to find our boat by its MMSI number which is 538072487. So, by clicking this link you see where in the world we are.

When we first saw her at the Ocean Marina, it was a VERY EXCITING moment for both of us. I dolled up the map a little so you can also see where our hotel is located (grey is land). We can walk from our hotel to the marina in about 10 minutes. We have not actually stepped foot on her yet, as she is getting some last minute touch-ups and a good scrubbing down after her maiden delivery voyage. Captain Phil said she handled the cruise very well.

  • Getting ready to embark on this adventure has been a process in and of itself. Taking all of the business paper to the shredder, and our “extra stuff” to local charities, we were then ready to get pretty much everything we own in 12 moving boxes! Paul decided to spray paint a big “R” on the sides to they would stand out, but as it happens, ours were the only boxes like ours on the flight so you could not really miss them.

Since our boat is being delivered in Thailand, we decided to treat ourselves to Business Class. The flight from Seattle to Taipei was very long, but we were both able to get in some rest and a few movies. By comparison, the flight from Taipei to Bangkok was pretty short (4 hours).

We were a bit nervous to have to go thru customs with 12 boxes, but we actually just breezed right through the green “nothing to declare” line! I think the customs agent just did not want the hassle! Happy for us!

Our Seawind liaison arranged to get us the 1.5 hour from Bangkok to Pattaya, where we will eventually pick-up the boat. We were able to offload the boxes to Seawind’s storage and get comfortably checked in to Dor-Shada Resort by the Sea.
